Gene,

I just wanted to drop a line and let you know how much I love the "Groove ORGANization." It totally swings from start to finish. What a trio! It's great to have a jazz legend right here at home in Pittsburgh. Hope to see you out soon. Best to you and Pattye.

I saw Mr. Ludwig's performance at Gullifty's last night and was blown away by the entire band. I am very much looking forward to the next show I can attend!

Just wanted to say thanks to Gene for his awesome body of music and his continuing, tireless efforts. I did a little post on one of his mid-60's recordings ("Blue Flame") on my website and couldn't believe it when Gene himself wrote in. What a thrill! Thanks again Gene.

best,
Dan

Gene,

I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday and many, many years of health, happiness with Pattye and sharing the gifts of your music.

I don't have many other words for all of the appreciation I have for the inspiration and confidence I have gotten from you and I hope that when the dust settles on my schedule this fall that I can spend more time studying with you again.

All my best to you and Pattye on your birthday!

Man, I love your organ playing! I can't believe it took me so long to discover your music. Learned about you from Wil Blades, who is being so kind as to provide me with occasional lessons so that I might be able to make my C3 sound maybe 1/10 as musical as the music you play. I'm going to try to buy more of your CD's than just the "Hands On" I have now. And I'll be keeping my eye out for a way to catch you live somewhere.

Enjoyed the concert on 8/10 in South Side Park. You were awesome as usual even though you only had a small piano, I can't believe what you got out of it. Sandy looks and sounds fantastic. What is her secret? You and her pull music out of places I didn't know existed, so overwhelming. Can you send me Sandy's web address, she forgot to write me. Thanks for your unending inspiration

Gene,

Last night:
Perfect weather with really happy kids playing in the fountains giving way to a beautiful crescent moon, a nice breeze and a few glasses of vino with the wife. Thanks to you and the guys for the perfect soundtrack! Loved the Girl from Ipanema tease!
Man am I lucky to live in your town!
See ya soon...

Hello Gene,
I grew up in Regent Square on Richmond St. My brother Bill Paul was a contemporary of your younger brother Jack. They have both been taken from us. Bill passed in 1998.

I always enjoyed your music and thought I would say hello. I saw you play the last time Ray Brown was at the MCG. Wow, I really enjoyed that.

Gene,
You've got grooves between your toes!!! I've been enjoying your playing in and around Pgh. for several years now. One month, after stopping in to see you more than a few times in more than a few places, my wife started calling me a "Ludwighead," likening my following you around town to the way the Deadheads used to follow the Grateful Dead around the country. Hey, that's OK with me. See you at the Bridge tonight! Thanks for all the great shows!

I caught Gene at Lincoln Center last week and thought he was great as was the show. Wish he played NYC more often. Look forward to seeing him back soon.

I was cruising on the way home last night and tuned into Bob Perkins with the GM show on WRTI Philly and heard "Portrait of Jennie" off of your new CD and loved it. Your website is great and I'm sorry I missed you at the Art Museum here on Jan. 20. Hope that you will be coming here again this Spring as I am eager to hear you in person. I live in Devon, outside of Philly. I have been stationed and have lived in many places in this country and this is a particular East Coast sound I love. I grew up with it.

Good luck, Bob Schenker

Gene,
I can't begin to tell you how much I was into the gig on Saturday. The quartet is smoking. It was a pleasure to finally meet your acquaintance, as well as the rest of the guys. I'll definately come out to see you again in the near future. I'm looking forward to checking out the "Street Preacher" record too. I'll give it a spin on my radio show. Talk to you soon, J. Malls

Hey Gene,
Great to have finally caught you in person here in Philly after admiring your records for some time. You sound better than ever--really dug your solo rendition of "Melancholy Serenade".

I didn't think the night could get any better--until you invited Trudy Pitts up and she played the most amazing 'Amazing Grace' I've ever heard. Just the cherry on a memorable evening...

Good chatting w/you and Patty....come back to Philly soon!
best,
George
